Laarni Lozada, the diva from Sultan Kudarat earned the highest votes at the recently concluded second season of Pinoy Dream Academy. She bested five other scholars with more than 35% of text votes. The grand star dreamer is determined by the number of votes garnered from the viewing public.
Bugoy Drilon, another crowd favorite, tagged as the farmer’s son who hailed from Bicol emerged in second place while Miguel Mendoza finished third completing the Top 3 scholars of the Academy as it closes its doors for this season. All three took home prizes in cash and in kind from ABS-CBN and sponsors.
Laarni hardly finished her winning piece “Manalig Ka” which was composed by the headmaster Mr. Ryan Cayabyab himself as she wept with tears of joy throughout the song. For the second year, a female scholar emerged on top. Incidentally, last season’s winner, Yeng Constantino also sung a then new song, “Salamat”, which she herself composed.
Following Miguel closely behind was Liezel Garcia who, according to the Wikipedia entry on Pinoy Dream Academy Season II was the top scholar in terms of grades throughout the season. She lost to Miguel by mere 6,000+ votes. Scholar, Van Roxas from Cebu placed fifth while the sultry singer from Paranaque, Cristina Pastor managed to get only 1% of her share of the total votes.
The two-hour long program also featured the Dream Mentors who performed a fun medley much to the delight of the audience. Expelled scholars of the academy also shared the spotlight as they all performed the opening act. Meanwhile, the little dreamers sang early Yuletide songs as their older counterparts passed around boxes for donations which the little dreamers will be giving to the charity.
